We are a member in good standing with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and are certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). We’ve put together some information and tips, so you know what to expect from our services.
Remodeling Tips
Renovating any part of your home should be an exciting experience. Follow these suggestions to make the process more enjoyable for everyone.
- Increase efficiency, not size. You can save a substantial amount of time and money by making the most of the space you already have, rather than expanding the size of a room. You can replace space-wasting shelves with pull outs equipped with racks.
- You can also save money by donating fixtures to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Many items removed during a remodel are still usable, and you can reduce landfill waste and receive a tax credit by donating them.
- If possible, leave any toilets and sinks in their original locations. You will save yourself the hassle of having new plumbing installed.
- Don’t forget the space under the stairs. If your remodel involves a staircase, leave the space underneath open. You can install shelves, wine racks, or create a cozy reading nook.
- The exterior of your home needs love too. Giving the interior a facelift is a great opportunity to accent the outside of your home. Add some statement planters near the front door, purchase a new mailbox, or plant a flower garden.
Mistakes to Avoid
Our professional designers will be with you for every part of the remodeling process, but it’s helpful to know what to avoid ahead of time.
- Quality materials are worth the price. You truly get what you pay for and spending the money now will save you time and money down the road for quality materials.
- Always have a plan. Many people believe a remodeling project means gutting entire rooms. This isn’t always the case, and we can often work around existing elements you want to keep in your home.
- If you’re adding a small half-bath, don’t go for full-size appliances. Opt for a low-profile toilet and a narrow sink to fit the available space.
- Lighting is an essential element. There are three types of lighting: general, task, and accent, and each has a purpose. You’ll want a nice mixture of the three types to create a welcoming ambiance.
- Our last tip is to not go too trendy. You want your home to be attractive and stylish, but trends are generally quite short-lived. Unless you want to renovate again in a few years, don’t let trends take over.
